                CONSISTENZA IN AMBITO NON PARAMETRICO



Abstract:

In the usual context of a parametric model for independent and identically
distributed observations, consistency of inferential procedure represents
a fundamental property which ought to be preliminarily ascertained. We aim
at reviewing some old and recent results concerning conditions which
guarantee consistency in a context where the dimension of the parameter
space is infinite, commonly referred to as nonparametric setting. More
specifically we aim at focussing on inferential problems where the parameter
space is a set of density functions and we will be considering as
inferential
techniques only maximum likelihood estimation and Bayesian procedures.
In illustrating the main ideas underlying some of the recent approach
towards
determining general conditions for consistency, we try to bring to the light
the presence of a common ground for conditions ensuring consistency in both
approaches. Some developments are illustrated concerning the possibility of
establishing sufficient conditions through the use of hypo-convergence.
