"Sensitivity Analysis and Statistical Modeling"
di Andrea Saltelli, Nicla Giglioli e Stefano Tarantola del Joint Research
Centre

che si terrà il giorno Martedì 16 gennaio 2001, ore 11.00, presso la
Facoltà di Ingegneria, via Marconi n°5, Dalmine, BG.

ABSTRACT: We explore the tasks where sensitivity analysis (SA) can be
useful and try to assess its relevance within the modelling process. We
advocate sensitivity analysis as an ingredient of modelling.
We suggest that SA could considerably assist in the use of models, by
providing objective criteria of judgement for different phases of the model
building process: model identification/discrimination, model calibration,
model corroboration.
We review some new global quantitative SA methods, and suggest that these
might enlarge the scope for sensitivity analysis in computational and
statistical modelling practice. Among the advantages of the new methods are
their robustness, model independence, and computational convenience.
The discussion is made on the basis of worked examples.
