The Collaborative Research Center (CRC) 1456 *Mathematics of Experiment:
The challenge of indirect measurements in the natural sciences* at the
Georg-August-University Göttingen started on January 1, 2021 offers a
position for

*a four years PostDoc (f/m/d).*

The postdoc will work as a leading scientist in subproject A04.

*“Dynamics of cytoskeletal networks: From geometric structure to cell
mechanics”*

within an interdisciplinary environment of the biophysics lab headed by
Sarah Köster and the mathematical statistics group of Axel Munk.

The aim of this project is to investigate how two mechanically distinct
types of polymers found in biological cells - microtubules and intermediate
filaments - influence or even stabilize each other. We envision to gain a
more detailed understanding of this interplay on cell mechanics, dynamics
and, eventually, function. The postdoc will develop novel statistical and
mathematical tools to investigate the dynamical and correlative behavior of
such networks, based on Gromov-Wasserstein spaces and related concepts. As
we model filament networks as graphs with metric measure space structure,
we expect the scope of applicability far beyond the present applications.

The position should be filled until May 31, 2021. The salary is in
accordance with the German public service salary scale (E13 TV-L). The
position is offered with 100% of the regular working hours.

*About us: *The aim of CRC 1456 is to *develop mathematical data analysis
for the natural sciences*, i.e. mathematical theory and tools to
efficiently extract maximal quantitative information from experimental
data. Data analysis based on optimal transport and related concepts, such
as Gromov-Wasserstein spaces will be a key issue in several of these
projects.

*Your profile:*

ˇ You have a background in *mathematical statistics, applied analysis
and/or optimization* and preferably some experience with *computational
data analysis*.

ˇ You like to work in an *interdisciplinary team* at the cutting edge
of mathematical theory and experimental labs.

ˇ You are willing to participate in *leading a team* of PhD students
and graduates.

ˇ You are fully *proficient* in written and spoken *English*.

ˇ You hold an *excellent PhD degree* *(or equivalent)* in mathematics
or a related field.

ˇ You already have or wish to gain experience in data modelling and
analysis in the natural sciences represented in this CRC.
