Abstract:
Social Media and, more generally, the Internet are a mine of 
informations left by billions of users and surfers around the world.
All these informations may result in noise unless one uses the right 
tool to analyze them.
We review some statistical and computer science approaches to the 
analysis of digital and digitized texts, discuss few methodological 
issues and show a practical solution to the problem of extracting 
information from these new kind of big data. Real data applications to 
forecasting of electoral competitions, nowcasting of social phenomena 
and real time analysis will be presented.
