One year post-doc open position

The Department of Environmental Sciences, Informatics and Statistics at 
the University Ca’ Foscari, Venice (Italy) is offering a post-doc 
position for developing new methodological tools for the analysis of 
ecological and environmental time series. The research project will be 
carried out within a multidisciplinary team, which includes Ecologists, 
Environmental Chemists, and Statisticians.
The importance of investigating the relationships between the evolution 
of environmental processes and that of the climate is well recognized. 
To this regard, methodological tools for describing and predicting 
complex and typically high-dimensional processes arising in Ecology and 
Environmental Sciences are needed. We solicit research proposals 
targeted at improving methodologies currently employed in in time series 
analysis of ecological and environmental data and testing novel 
approaches on real-world time series.

In particular, the research proposal should address one or more of the 
following topics:
• Change points and/or trend detection
• Compositional time series data
• Extreme value analysis
• Multivariate non linear time series
• Non-gaussian time series analysis
• Space-time analysis.

Field of applications: climate, ecological population dynamics, chemical 
pollution pollutants.
Requirements: Applicants Ph.D. in Statistics; Ph.D in Environmental 
Sciences and Ecology.

Candidates are required to submit a research proposal concerning the 
topics listed above.

The selection committee will also take into consideration the following 
criteria:
• education and scientific background, including participation to 
workshop, conferences, advanced school knowledge across the relevant 
subjects;
• technical competence and a number, quality and pertinence to the 
listed topics of papers published in peer review journal;
• capacity of working in a multidisciplinary team.


Annual Salary: about 21,000 Euro net. The fellowship is expected to 
start in May / June 2013

process is based on an evaluation of the applicants’ CV and of the 
research proposal submitted with the application. It will be completed 
by March 7th. The shortlisted candidates will be invited to an interview 
to be held on March 14th, in person or by video-conference.
