14.30, si terra' presso il CNR-IMATI, sezione di Milano, Via Bassini, 15, Milano, (piano terra), il seminario META-ANALYSIS OF GENETIC ASSOCIATION STUDIES USING MENDELIAN RANDOMISATION COSETTA MINELLI University of Leicester Abstract. Mendelian randomisation is a natural process occurring at conception to determine a person's genotype. However, the term Mendelian randomisation is often used to describe a method which uses genetic data to derive an estimate of the association between a phenotype (risk factor) and a disease that is free of the confounding and reverse causation typical of classical epidemiology. This is obtained by combining the information from genetic association studies on both genotype-disease and genotype-phenotype associations. In a meta-analysis context, studies evaluating genotype-phenotype, genotype-disease or both associations are encountered, and an integrated meta-analytical approach is presented which: 1) allows for this structure; 2) helps detect departures from the assumptions underlying Mendelian randomisation; 3) helps detect reporting bias. The approach is illustrated by using the example of MTHFR gene, homocysteine and coronary heart disease. Tutti gli interessati sono cordialmente invitati a partecipare.
