          Optimum Design:  An Overview  for   Applications

Abstract
However powerful and refined a statistical analysis, it cannot
extract information from the data that is unobtainable due to poor
experimental design. The problem is most severe when several
experimental variables jointly affect the response. Yet the
subject of experimental design is strangely overlooked in most
statistical courses.
The talk introduces the methods of optimum experimental design.
The consequences of the powerful underlying theory will be
explored and applied to a variety of examples: response surface
designs in the process industries,  nonlinear models arising in
chemical kinetics, clinical trials and experiments where the
response is described by a generalized linear model. An instance
is toxicology studies.
