PhD Studentships in Biostatistics
The Department of Epidemiology & Biostatistics of the Erasmus University
Medical Centre and the Department of Medical Statistics & Bioinformatics
of the Leiden
University Medical Centre are both involved in the development and
application of
statistical methods for medical research. The activities of both
departments
comprise teaching in statistics, statistical consulting and research
aimed at the
development of new techniques for medical data. The two departments have
received a major
grant from the Netherlands Organisation for Health Research and
Development for a
collaborative research program on:
Advanced meta-analytical methods for medical data
In this program there are vacancies for:
two PhD-students biostatistics
Description of research program:
Meta-analysis is the systematic and quantitative review of the results
of a set of individual medical studies all concerning the same or a
closely related
research question, intended to integrate their findings. The overall aim
of this
program is to develop new statistical methods for the analysis of
meta-analysis data
from medical studies. Specific aims are (1) To develop new methods for the
application of meta-analysis results in clinical practice (2) To develop
new methods
for investigating the relationship between treatment effect and baseline
risk in clinical
trials meta-analysis (3) To develop new methods for ROC curve
meta-analysis (4)
To develop new methods for survival curve meta-analysis (5) To develop
new methods
for meta-analysis of genetic (linkage) studies. In this program two
PhD-students and two
post-docs will closely work together. The PhD projects will concentrate
on (3) and (4).
A detailed project description is available on request.
Requirements:
MSc (bio)statistics or another MSc degree with a strong statistical
component.
Location:
One PhD-student at the Erasmus MC and one at the LUMC.
Conditions of employment:
Appointment for 3.5 years. Salary approximately € 29000 per year based
on full-time position.
