School Survey on-line

CIRDIS launches a school survey to gather data on students characteristics to be used for learning statistics.

With the collaboration of other teachers, it will be possible to enlarge the dataset Alessi.xls (file  Excel - 103KB) containing the data from the survey  "How are we now?", carried out by two colleagues of the school "G. Alessi" in Perugia. 

Teachers that will join the project by sending the data collected in their classes or school will receive some teaching material (teaching units, worksheets,...) for the data analysis.

A data oriented approach is considered the most appropriate way for learning statistical reasoning and understanding statistical concepts.
The CIRDIS, continuing the tradition of promoting the diffusion of statistical literacy at school, launches a survey on-line for building a database on students  characteristics with data gatherd by the students themselves, that can be an unvaluable source for learning and teaching statistics with real data.
The data from the survey "How are we now?" carried out at "Liceo G. Alessi" in Perugia are already a valuable set of data for doing statistics in a concrete and motivating approach. With the contribution of everyone interested on the improvement of statistical education at school, the set could become richer and should stimulate a great deal of production of teaching materials.
