Title: “Growing Team Synergy for Analyzing IoT Streams for Risk Assessment”

Abstract: Currently, many companies are leveraging the advancement in IoT
technologies by incorporating Wireless Sensor Network (WSN)-based solutions
as part of their monitoring and risk analysis systems. The Hartford Steam
Boiler (HSB), whose parent company is the Munich Re Group, is interested in
analyzing vast amounts of data and information from IoT sensors that monitor
temperatures for thousands of institutional buildings across the US in order
to minimize the risk of adverse events for its customers. This talk will
describe how three teams with different skill sets and training can work
together to leverage engineering know-how with state of the art approaches
in statistical methods and computing algorithms in order to handle aberrant
data handling, clustering subsequences, and anomaly detection, in order to
achieve the company’s business goals. The teams consist of domain knowledge
experts from HSB, and research teams of faculty and graduate students from
Statistics and Computer Science from the University of Connecticut.
