Subject: Research Associate position in spatial statistics/epidemiology -
Imperial College London
To: <michela.cameletti at unibg.it>

We are looking for an excellent and quantitatively strong candidate, with a
PhD in Biostatistics, Epidemiology or a closely related quantitative
discipline to join our multi-disciplinary team.

Our project aims to study spatial uncertainty in small area analysis from
survey and administrative data, as part of a collaborative project with
Emory University and Harvard, funded by the US National Institutes of
Health. Demographic data are intrinsically part of epidemiological studies,
but limited research has been done on the impact of spatial uncertainty at
small-area level. The results of this project will be key to the analysis
of the next national census in England and Wales, and to plan future
censuses in the UK, US and other countries.

You will contribute to developing and applying i) statistical methods to
model uncertainty in small area studies; ii) methods to guarantee
reproducibility; and iii) tools to facilitate accurate interpretability
through novel visualization techniques. You will be expected to bring
enthusiasm as well as valuable expertise and experience to strengthen the
project’s team; to help meet its research objectives; and to participate
and lead on publications arising from this consortium.

Experience in handling survey/administrative data, spatio-temporal
statistical analysis and Bayesian modelling is essential.

Imperial College London provides world-class scholarship, education and
research in science, engineering, business and medicine. The School of
Public Health at Imperial College London aims to achieve better health in
the population through strengthening the public health science base,
training the next generation of public health leaders and influencing
health policies and programmes around the world. The Department of
Epidemiology and Biostatistics, within the School of Public Health, is
headed by Professor Paul Elliott. Its research covers a number of themes
including environmental epidemiology, biostatistics and population
collections. Our work is used to inform health policy and understand key
issues affecting society. The UK Small Area Health Statistics Unit (SAHSU)
sits within the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics. SAHSU’s work
includes substantive epidemiological enquiries of environmental health
problems and methodological research around data quality and space-time
statistical analysis of non-communicable disease.

Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be
appointed as Research Assistant within the salary range £35,477- £38,566
per annum

The contract will be for a fixed term duration of 3 years (36 months).

Deadline: 10 November 2019

Interviews: 2 December 2019
