Abstract
The MABAT Youth National Health and Nutrition Survey was conducted in Israel by the Israeli Ministry of Health and the Israeli Center for Disease Control. The talk will presents results of physical activity (PA) habits in Israel, in relation to recommendations by world health organizations. Participants were 6274 adolescents, grades 7–12, enrolled in a cross-sectional, representative, school-based survey. Sufficient level of PA was defined as any moderate and vigorous level of PA that adds up daily to 60 min/day. Light PA was considered to be an insufficient level of PA. Only 10.5% of the participants reported performing sufficient PA. The survey found large gender differences, with 17.7% of boys versus only 4.6% of girls meeting the guidelines. These results highlight the need to develop programmes for school children in Israel to promote PA. Such programmes have been initiated in many countries that have a large percentage of adolescents with a sedentary lifestyle. In a 2014 paper in the Journal of the Royal Statistical Society (Series A), Kenett and Shmueli define the concept of Information Quality (InfoQ) as the potential of a dataset to achieve a specific (scientific or practical) goal using a given empirical analysis method. InfoQ is different from data quality and analysis quality, but is dependent on these components and on the relationship between them. Eight dimensions are used to assess InfoQ: 1) Data Resolution, 2) Data Structure, 3) Data Integration, 4) Temporal Relevance, 5) Generalizability, 6) Chronology of Data and Goal, 7) Operationalization and 8) Communication. The talk will review the MABAT survey from an InfoQ perspective and demonstrate how to perform an InfoQ assessment of applied research in general.
