[Forum SIS] Jean Monnet Chair “Small Area methods for Multidimensional Poverty and living conditions Indicators in EU – SAMPIEU” - University of Pisa

I am glad to inform you that two new Jean Monnet courses, co-funded by 
European Commission Erasmus + Programme, will be held at the Department 
of Economics and Management of the University of Pisa:

- “European Indicators of poverty and vulnerabilities for Sustainable 
Development Goal and Seminars” (9 ECTS - I Semester).
On this course has been borrowed the course: “European Statistical 
System and Data Production Model” (6 ECTS - I Semester) which is part of 
the “OS” curriculum of the Master of Science in Economics and it has 
been awarded by the European Commission with the label ‘European Master 
in Official Statistics’ (EMOS).

- “Small Area Methods for the analysis of multidimensional poverty data 
and Seminars” (9 ECTS - II Semester).
On this course has been borrowed: the course: “Analysis of Survey Data 
and Small Area Estimation” (6 ECTS - II Semester) which is part of the 
curriculum “OS” of the Masters of Science in Economics which has been 
labelled with the 'Certificate European Master in Official Statistics' 
by the European Statistical System Committee.

These courses are part of the Jean Monnet Chair “Small Area methods for 
Multidimensional Poverty and living conditions Indicators in EU – 
SAMPIEU” (chair holder Monica Pratesi) and are continuing the Jean 
Monnet Chair 2015-2018 “Small Area Methods for Monitoring of Poverty and 
Living conditions in EU (SAMPL - EU)” (chair holder Monica Pratesi) and 
the related research activities.

The Chair aims at educating students to the study of local statistics on 
poverty and living conditions in order to provide reliable evidence to 
monitor EU regional policy and on the existing production process of 
European official data and indicators both at national and international 
level.
It also aims at teaching how to communicate the results to local 
stakeholders, showing how to provide evidence to evaluate the impact of 
local projects co-financed by the EU funds.
Moreover, it deepens the themes treated in the curriculum in Official 
Statistics of the Master of Science in Economics of the University of 
Pisa, that has been involved in the European Master of Official 
Statistics since the academic year 2015/16.

The Chair offers a cycle of seminars which will be held by:
- Mario Biggeri (University of Florence),
- Jan van den Brakel (Maastricht University School of Business),
- Mariola Chrzanowska (Warsaw University of Life Sciences),
- Nina Drejerska (Warsaw University of Life Sciences),
- Marina Gandolfo (ISTAT),
- Vincenzo Mauro (University of Pisa),
- Maria Pia Sorvillo (ISTAT),
- Nikos Tzavidis (University of Southampton).

The Chair organizes also a cycle of seminars in cooperation with the 
Centre ASESD Camilo Dagum, the first two are:
- Focus on European Statistical Surveys and National Accounting Systems 
held by Prof. Emeritus Luigi Biggeri (University of Florence) - (8 
hours);
- Spatial differences in price levels, income and poverty held by Prof. 
Prasada Rao (University of Queensland, AU) - (8 hours).
Courses and seminars are opened to all students, teachers and anyone 
else interested.
