Discrimination arises when a person or a group is treated less 
favourably than others because of the presence
of some specific characteristics. We are dealing with an extensive 
construct, difficult to assess, which generally implies
unjustified distinctions in decision making, behaviours and/or 
treatments towards individuals on the basis of their
belonging (or not belonging) to a certain group. The subjective 
perception of being discriminated may seriously affect
quality of life and individual well-being. We aim at investigating the 
extent of perceived discrimination across European
countries using data stemming from the Eurobarometer Opinions survey. 
Results refer to 27,718 EU citizens from different
social and demographic groups. As an effective analytical tool to detect 
perceived discrimination, a specific mixture model
aims at modelling ordinal responses through expressed ratings, taking 
both the heterogeneity and the agreement of the
interviewees into account. More specifically, CUB models are implemented 
in detecting the latent trait and its relevant features,
highlighting the effects of the available covariates to discover 
significant relationships in the response patterns.
