*Junior Researcher* in mathematical modelling of neglected tropical
diseases. The position is initially offered
for two years with possibility of extension leading to a PhD.

*Job description*: The neglected tropical diseases (NTD) are a group of
poverty-related diseases caused by
various types of infective agents that affect over a billion people
worldwide. This research position focuses
on soil transmitted helminths and schistosomiasis. The research will
involve working with established
individual-based and deterministic models for transmission and control
of NTDs as well as developing new
mathematical and statistical models for the analysis of epidemiological
data. The researcher is expected to
publish in high impact peer-reviewed journals.

*Qualifications and skills*: Enthusiastic graduate with Master of
Science in epidemiology, biology, medicine,
mathematics, econometrics, biostatistics, or related field with an
interest in infectious disease modeling
and epidemiological data analysis. The candidate should demonstrate a
strong affinity for quantitative
skills, including statistics (in particular Bayesian methods) and
statistical programming (preferably in R).
Previous experience conducting research are preferred. The candidate
should have good command of the
English language, both verbally and in writing (i.e. command of the
Dutch language is not required).

*Work environment*: The candidate will be working within the group of
infectious disease control at the
Department of Public Health, Erasmus MC, Rotterdam, the Netherlands. The
Department of Public Health
employs researchers from various backgrounds, including medical
sciences, social sciences, computer
sciences, economics, and mathematics, providing a well-rounded working
environment with a wide range
of expertise. Within the department, the research unit of Infectious
Disease Control is an internationally
leading group in mathematical modelling of transmission and control of
parasite, bacterial, and viral
infections, with long-standing expertise in individual-based modelling.
The junior researcher position is
linked to several ongoing research projects, which are carried out in
collaboration with Leiden University
Medical Center in addition to various international partners and
modelling groups within the Bill & Melinda
Gates Foundation funded NTD Modelling Consortium.

The position is initially offered for two years with possibility of
extension leading to a PhD, depending on
positive evaluation and funding. For more information about this
position, please contact:
