Dear Colleagues,

Please find below the announcement of vacancies for
1. PhD (in Leiden University Medical Center, NL)
2. UAF (in Leeds, UK)

Best regards,
Francesca Martella

========

*PhD candidate for Topbreed, LUMC/WUR*

Biometris
<http://www.wageningenur.nl/en/Expertise-Services/Research-Institutes/plant-research-international/About/Organisation/Biometrie/Collaboration.htm>,
Wageningen UR, is looking for a PhD candidate, jointly with statistical
genetics group <http://www.lumc.nl/statgen> of the department of Medical
Statistics and Bioinformatics, Leiden University Medical Center. The
project is a part of the STW Breed4Food partnership
<http://www.wageningenur.nl/en/Jobs/Innovations-in-animal-breeding-and-genomics-vacancies-for-8-PhD-candidates-and-2-postdocs.htm>
.

The project aims to develop statistical genetic methodology to increase the
accuracy of genomic prediction for complex phenotypic traits by optimal use
of sequence information. This new prediction methodology will approximate
as closely as possible total genetic variation.

Candidates should hold a degree in mathematics, statistics, statistical
genetics, biostatistics, or in animal breeding with a strong statistical
component.

*UAF in applied statistics, LEEDS*

The school of mathematics, University of Leeds has a UAF (University
Academic Fellows) position available in computational or applied
statistics or mathematics.

You have interests in, for example, Bayesian machine learning or other
methods for prediction based on high dimensional data, hidden Markov models
or other graph theoretic computational approaches that may be used in
probabilistic network modelling.

You will develop a research profile addressing the mathematical hurdles
that must be overcome in order for meaningful progress to be made in Data
Analytics, in the context of problems that must be tackled in a
fundamentally interdisciplinary way, you will represent the School of
Mathematics in the newly formed Leeds Institute for Data Analytics.<
http://www.lida.leeds.ac.uk/> You will contribute to the School's ambition
to excel in Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2020, with a sustained
record of internationally excellent publications and the potential for your
research having impact outside Mathematics.

For further details of these posts and how to apply, please see:

Closing date for applications is 30th September 2015.

These post will be supported by a structured five year fellowship
development programme leading to an Associate Professor role. Grade 8
(£38,511 to £45,954) progressing to Grade 9 (£47,328 - £54,841) upon
confirmation as Associate Professor.
