*Duration:*1 year contract (beginning May 16, 2012).

*Minimal requirements*:
. PhD in engineering or applied mathematics or statistics;
. good knowledge of the English language;
. good knowledge of the R language.

*Description: *Objective of the research program is the development and 
application to real data sets of techniques fordimensional reduction and 
blind source separation of time-varying spatially-distributed signals. 
Data analysis is expected to be two-fold: each signal will indeed be 
represented both as a vector (discrete approach) and as a function 
(continuous approach). The post-doc research fellow will be asked - 
starting from methods presented in the literature - to propose possible 
new methods of analysis and to test them on simulated and real data sets.
The activities the fellow is expected to carry out are briefly detailed 
below:
. analysis of the literature related to the signal deconvolution;
. possible extension, to the case of geo-referenced data, of the 
methodologies presented in the literature;
. development of new methodologies;
. implementation of a battery of simulations for the empirical 
comparison of different methodologies;
. analysis of real cases of interest for the MOX laboratory;
. development of the R code supporting the developed methodologies.
The research will be carried out at the MOX Laboratory. In particular 
the fellow will be asked to actively participate in the research 
activities of the laboratory. The fellow will work with Professor 
Piercesare Secchi and Dr Simone Vantini of the Department of 
Mathematics, Politecnico di Milano.*
