5th SIPTA SCHOOL ON IMPRECISE PROBABILITY

                          16-20 July 2012, Pescara, Italy
===========================================================================

SIPTA, the Society for Imprecise Probability: Theories and Applications
<http://www.sipta.org/>, organizes its 5th Summer School on 16-20 July
2012 in Pescara, Italy in collaboration with the University
G.d'Annunzio.

The school website with the application form can be found at

          http://www.sci.unich.it/convegni/2012/siptass/

The current application deadline is 31 March 2012; this may close
earlier if the maximum number of participants is reached.

AIM, TOPICS & TEACHERS

The aim of the school is to give starting PhD students and more
experienced researchers the necessary basis to understand the
literature on and work with imprecise probabilities. The school will
take place in a friendly environment favoring interactions among
participants. Leading experts in the field will give lectures
accompanied by hands-on exercises and supplemented with discussions of
applications:

- In the main line of the school Alessandro Antonucci (IDSIA,
Switzerland), Gert de Cooman (UGent, Belgium), Fabio Cozman (USP,
Brazil), and Enrique Miranda (UNIOVI, Spain) will lead students from
the basics of imprecise probability theory over conditional and
marginal models via independence concepts to credal networks
(imprecise probabilistic graphical networks).

- Didier Dubois (IRIT, France) will give an overview of the wide range
of uncertainty models that can be put under the imprecise probability
umbrella.

- Teddy Seidenfeld (CMU, USA) will explain how to deal with decision
problems involving imprecise probabilities and what their pitfalls are.

- Serena Doria (University G.d'Annunzio, Italy) will introduce Choquet
integral representations and Hausdorff outer measures.

TRAVEL GRANTS

The AI Journal <http://www.ida.liu.se/ext/aijd/> has graciously
provided us with some funds for grants to help cover travel expenses.
Students can apply for such a grant by providing us with a concrete
estimate of their needs and ways in which they can leverage the grant
to obtain funding from other sources. Because we wish to use these
funds as effectively as possible, we will only be able to help
candidates that would otherwise not be able to participate.

FURTHER INFORMATION & CONTACTS:

Please see the school website for more and up-to-date information
and contact Serena Doria <s.doria at dst.unich.it> and Erik Quaeghebeur
<Erik.Quaeghebeur at UGent.be> for questions.

We are looking forward to meeting you in Pescara. We also welcome you
to further circulate this announcement.

Best regards,

The organizers:
Gert de Cooman, Serena Doria, Erik Quaeghebeur, Teddy Seidenfeld
