APOLOGIES FOR CROSS POSTING

Registration is now open for the SMBES2011 (Statistical modelling for biological and environmental systems) conference:

 http://www2.warwick.ac.uk/fac/sci/statistics/crism/workshops/venice2011

NO registration fees are charged for this event, to encourage the participation of research students and of young researchers.

SMBES2001 is a 5 day summer school (12th-16th September) on the
development and application of statistical methodology motivated by and
grounded in contemporary problems in systems biology and environmental
sciences. The SMBES2011 summer school will take place at the Palazzo
Pesaro-Papafava, home of Warwick in Venice, situated a short walk away from
the Rialto Bridge and the Ca' d'Oro.

Our confirmed invited speakers will provide expository lectures on

               * Statistical inference for nonlinear dynamic models of biological systems (Mark Girolami, Glasgow)
              * Introduction to continuous-time Markov processes and variational approximations with applications to transcriptional dynamics (Manfred Opper, Berlin)
              * A statistical approach to space-time modeling of environmental variables (Bruno Sanso', UCSC)
              * Spatio-temporal models for epidemic count data and their validation based on out-of-sample predictions (Leonard Held, Zurich)
               * Bayesian inference for stochastic population dynamics (Barbel Finkenstadt, Warwick)
               * Semi-parametric multivariate time series modeling with applications to neural dynamics (Fabio Rigat, Warwick)

SMBES2011 welcomes contributions in the form of abstracts for oral presentations and posters on

               * mathematical and inferential properties of novel models for well-known biological and environmental systems
               * application of established statistical methodology to novel scientific questions arising in the study of these systems.

Application areas of interest include, for instance, inference for
dynamical systems, biomolecular networks, understanding genotype-phenotypes
relations, spatio-temporal processes, modeling effects of human exposure to
environmental agents, climate change, ecology and epidemics, systems biology, inverse problems.

SMBES2011 will run in parallel with the Warwick System Biology summer school on gene regulatory networks
 (http://www2.warwick.ac.uk/fac/sci/systemsbiology/training/psbss), fostering
the interaction of the Statistics and Systems Biology research communities.

Further details on registration and accommodation are available at this conference website:
