Dear Colleagues,

The Institute of Genetic Medicine at the European Academy of Bolzano
(EURAC) is now inviting applications for a Post-Doctoral Position in
Statistical Genetics from candidates with the following qualifications:

- Experience with linkage analysis and with the analysis of family-based
information, as well as good knowledge of the related software;
knowledge of the statistical principles behind the variance components
model is required;

- A PhD degree in Genetic Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Computational
Biology or related fields;

A good publication record on the topic is an advantage but is not
required.

The successful candidate will perform univariate and multivariate
linkage analysis on quantitative and qualitative traits using up-to-date
methodologies, based on both microsatellite and SNP markers. In
collaboration with other researchers, the candidate will set up a
platform for the systematic assessment of genetic loci, including those
with pleiotropic effect on multiple outcomes, by combining linkage and
association information.

The position will be initially for 1 year with possible extension upon
mutual agreement.

The Institute is involved in the genetic analysis of quantitative and
qualitative cardiovascular, renal, and neurological phenotypes, obtained
from a pedigree-based study on >1300 individuals from the general
population of three semi-isolated Alpine villages. A new
population-based study on >10,000 individuals, with inclusion of a large
number of families from villages in an Alpine valley, will begin by the
end of 2010. The Institute is being increasingly involved in genome-wide
association scans and candidate gene analyses of several traits, both
independently and within international consortia. Our objective is now
to combine the evidence emerging from the several studies in which we
are involved, to identify genetic loci with pleiotropic effects and
variants that are particularly relevant to the local population. To this
aim, we are planning to setup a combined linkage/association analysis
platform to mine combinations of phenotypes and to test to which extent
common genetic variants are relevant to the local population.
