Lecturer in Statistics
Department of Mathematics and Statistics
University of Canterbury, New Zealand

Closing date: Friday 24 September 2010 (NZ time)

Applications are invited for a continuing (tenured) position in
Statistics, at the level of Lecturer (comparable to Assistant Professor
in the US system) in our Department of Mathematics and Statistics.
We are looking for an individual with a demonstrated background in
research and teaching. In this position, you will contribute to the
Department’s undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and undertake
high-quality research. You will have the ability to work effectively
within teams as part of your administration and teaching duties.
The successful applicant will have research interests in any area of
applied statistics. Interest in statistical applications to economics,
finance, psychology and biology are particularly welcomed. You must have
a Ph.D. in Statistics (or be near completion) or the equivalent.

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics is a strong,
forward-looking Department, dedicated to excellence in research and
teaching.  It has an established tradition of financial support for
research-related travel and visitors.  The Department has a broad range
of research strengths in statistics, and attracts some of the best

Operational expenditure will be available from College of Engineering
funds for the first two years after appointment, and the appointee will
also have the opportunity to apply for capital expenditure funds as part
of the annual budgeting process.
