terrà un seminario dal titolo:

Bayesian Hierarchical Spatiotemporal Models for Ocean Climatologies

Abstract:
We develop statistical spatio-temporal models for historical records of ocean temperatures and salinity collected sparsely in space
over a period of thirty years. Our models seek to estimate ocean climatologies for the variables of interest, together with
quantifications of the anomalies, the trends and the seasonal cycles. The components of the model are allowed to vary with time and
location. While ocean temperature data are relatively numerous, salinity measurements are scarce. Our model considers both variables
jointly and imposes density stability conditions to avoid unstable water columns. The spatio-temporal evolution of the data is
captured using convolutions with compactly supported kernels. Particular attention is given to the problem of handling large
datasets. This is achieved with an efficient parallelization of the Markov chain Monte Carlo method used in the estimation of the
model parameters. We use data from the Northern Atlantic Ocean to illustrate our method.
