MODELS FOR THE PREDICTION OF TRAFFIC CONGESTION
           -----------------------------------------------

Abstract:

Traffic counts from inductance loops embedded in the road surface of
motorway networks are now being wired to local and distant processors.
A state space model is employed to exploit this stochastic information,
in particular for estimating and predicting anticipated travel times.
