                             WORKSHOP ON
Partial Knowledge and Uncertainty in Complex Systems
                        Roma, May 16-18, 1996

SCIENTIFIC COMMITTEE

Romano Scozzafava (Chairman)
Marta Olivetti Belardinelli
Giulianella Coletti
Alfonso Miola
Aldo Ventre

The workshop (with a maximum of 50 participants) aims at providing
a forum for scientific exchange in the field of Partial Knowledge
and Uncertainty in Complex Systems: invited speakers will survey the
state of the art and recent developments in their specific research
field, possibly supporting different ways (belief functions, fuzzy
theory, probability, nonmonotonic logic, etc.) of treating mechanic-
al inference and partial knowledge in intelligent systems.
There will be no contributed papers, but only 50-minute plenary
invited lectures and a round table. Informal proceedings (containing
three-page extended abstracts of the invited lectures) will be avai-
lable at the beginning of the Workshop. Persons interested to parti-
cipate should send the enclosed registration form.
Registration fee: 100,000 It. Liras (the fee covers attendance of
lectures and round-table, a copy of the Proceedings, coffee-breaks,
welcoming buffet and two lunches taking place on the premises of the
workshop).

                 Travel and Accomodation Information

The workshop will take place in Roma on 17-18 May 1996, at "Aula
III" of "Facolta' di Psicologia", Via dei Marsi 78.
There will be a welcoming buffet in the evening of 16 May at
"Dipartimento Metodi e Modelli Matematici", Pal.B, Via Scarpa 16.
Both locations are easily accessible (15 minutes walk) from the
railway central station (Roma-Termini), which is also connected to
Fiumicino Airport by a train service. The travelling time by train
from Fiumicino Airport to the Air Terminal of Roma-Termini is about
30 minutes.
  Car parking: almost impossible!
The following few selected hotels (name followed by the number of
stars) are all at walking distance (maximum 20 minutes) from the
workshop location:
